Sometime last year, I wrote about an album called Quantum by a band called Planet X. The drummer, Virgil Donati, and the guitarist, Brett Garsed were here in Bangalore on 6th August, playing tracks from the album. Virgil also gave drumming lessons.
Amidst a lot of confusion with the dates, venue, tickets and all that, the show was finally conducted at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The ticket costing Rs. 499 included attending the concert, passes to the after show party, autograph session with the band members, and food!
Virgil’s technical proficiency is well known among drummers, and I won’t discuss about it. Brett Garsed took over Tony McAlpine’s job – which means he’s awesome too.
Two brilliant musicians – and a small crowd which predominantly consisted of drummers. The first three rows at the venue were reserved for “Special People” and “The Press” who went even before the concert ended. I had to be happy with the fourth row. They also allowed photographs to be taken at the venue, which pleased me all the more.
They played all tracks in Quantum (Impressive!!) and a track from Brett’s solo album. Few photos that I clicked:
A mean looking Virgil behind the kit:

The after-show party was at Opus, and the atmosphere was pretty good. Things were smooth, people spoke with the two of them, got autographs and ate the free food (which was, by the way, excellent!)
A good show, lots of lessons for drummers.
